چکیده

Suckling rat plasma contains (in mg/dl): chylomicrons (85 +/- 12); VLDL (50 +/- 6); LDL (200 +/- 23); HDL1 (125 +/- 20); and HDL2 (220 +/- 10), while lymph contains (in mg/dl): chylomicrons (9650 +/- 850) and VLDL (4570 +/- 435) and smaller amounts of LDL and HDL. The lipid composition of plasma and lymph lipoproteins are similar to those reported for adults, except that LDL and HDL1 have a somewhat higher lipid content. The apoprotein compositions of plasma lipoproteins are similar to those of adult lipoproteins except for the LDL fraction, which contains appreciable quantities of apoproteins other than apoB. Although the LDL fraction was homogeneous by analytical ultracentrifugation and electrophoresis, the apoprotein composition suggests the presence of another class of lipoproteins, perhaps a lipid-rich HDL1. The lipoproteins of lymph showed low levels of apoproteins E and C. The triacylglycerols in chylomicrons and VLDL of both lymph and plasma are rich in medium-chain-length fatty acids, whereas those in LDL and HDL have little or none. Phospholipids in all lipoproteins lack medium-chain-length fatty acids. The cholesteryl esters of the high density lipoproteins are enriched in arachidonic acid, whereas those in chylomicrons, VLDL, and LDL are enriched in linoleic acid, suggesting little or no exchange of cholesteryl esters between these classes of lipoproteins. The fatty acid composition of phosphatidylcholine, sphingomyelin, and lysophosphatidylcholine were relatively constant in all lipoprotein fractions, suggesting ready exchange of these phospholipids. However, the fatty acid composition of phosphatidylethanolamine in plasma chylomicrons and VLDL differed from that in plasma LDL, HDL1, and HDL2. LDL, HDL1, and HDL2 were characterized by analytical ultracentrifugation and shown to have properties similar to that reported for adult lipoproteins. The much higher concentration of triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins in lymph, compared to plasma, suggests rapid clearance of these lipoproteins from the circulation.

Changes in Biochemical Parameters Related to Lipid Metabolism Following Lithium Treatment in Rat

Lithium is widely used in medicine as an anti-depressive drug. In spite of abundant literature, questions on the side effects of lithium ions are far from being answered. In this study, the effects of lithium on biochemical parameters related to lipid metabolism were investigated. Male Wistar rats were treated with different doses of lithium for a period of up to 60 days. Blood samples were col...

Lymphatic absorption of fatty acids and cholesterol in the neonatal rat.

High-fat diets are essential in suckling animals to ensure adequate calories for postnatal growth, but their lymphatic transport of dietary lipids has not been characterized. We established a lymph fistula model in suckling rats to quantify intestinal uptake and lymphatic transport of dietary lipids and analyzed lipoprotein fractions. Suckling 19-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats had their mesenteric...

Plasma lipoproteins in normal and preeclamptic pregnant women

Background: Preeclampsia is one of the most common complications of pregnancy. It is the cause of high morbidity and mortality for mothers and fetuses, especially in developing countries. The etiology of preeclampsia is unknown. One of the hypothesis on pathophysiology of preeclampsia is dyslipidemia. The aim of this study was to determine maternal plasma levels of lipoproteins in patients with...

Changes in Biochemical Parameters Related to Lipid Metabolism Following Titanium Treatment in Rat

Titanium salts are widely used in pharmacy and industry as intensely white permanent pigment with good covering power in paints , paper , toothpaste , plastics and food dye s. This ion is a redox-active transition metal and may cause oxidative damages to lipids, proteins and DNA molecules. In spite of abundant literature, questions about the side effects of titanium ions...

Interaction of serum lipoproteins with the intestine. Evidence for specific high density lipoprotein-binding sites on isolated rat intestinal mucosal cells.

To determine if plasma lipoproteins interact and therefore possibly regulate intestinal lipoprotein metabolism, we investigated the binding, internalization, and degradation of 125I-labeled low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) by enzyme-dispersed rat intestinal mucosal cells. Both human and rat LDL and HDL were bound, internalized, and degraded in a concentration-dep...
